TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital

TICH is a publicly owned nonprofit hospital. The main building over 76,000 square meters and cost nearly $100 million to build. It functions as a clinical, teaching, and research center with 600 beds, 16 operating rooms, 80 ICU beds, 5 Cath labs, and 40 CCU beds. Enjoy the video below:

President LIU Xiaocheng

LIUDr. LIU Xiaocheng serves as the president of TICH. His concurrent posts are standing director of China Medical Association, standing director of International Exchange Center of The Ministry of Public Health, senior consultant of China Red Cross, international member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and visiting scholar to Eisenhower Fellowships and consultant to its International Advisory Council.

Dr. Liu was not satisfied with the comfortable life and successful career in Beijing, because he realized that the current medical system needs to be changed and the supply-demand imbalance for cardiovascular treatment needs to be solved. He decided to carry the experiment on building up a new medical system and model. Therefore, he left from all his posts in CAMS and PUMC and went to TEDA to build and manage TICH in 2001.

Dr. Liu is not only a well-known expert in cardiovascular surgery, but also an efficient administrator. In recognition of his contribution to China’s medical reform, The State Education Commission & The Ministry of Personnel jointly rewarded him “National Distinguished Scientist with Outstanding Contribution Who has Studied Abroad", The Ministry of Personnel rewarded him “National Young and Middle Aged Scientist with Distinguished Contribution", The State Council entitled him “All China Model Worker", and The Ministry of Public Health granted him “National Outstanding Person in Medicine Who has Studied Abroad" and “National Outstanding Person in Medicine".

D:\Professor Bruce Reitz from Stanford University\Operation\IMG_6190.JPGDr. Bruce Reitz assists Dr. Liu Xiaocheng during surgery at the TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital.  Reitz is a Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon and is universally recognized as one of the foremost cardiac surgeons in the world.

Dr. Reitz served as Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Johns Hopkins University from 1982 until 1992 before becoming Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford, a position he held until 2005.  In 1981, Reitz and his team performed the world’s first successful heart-lung transplant. Dr. Liu is Asia’s most respected cardiovascular surgeon and currently is President of TEDA Cardiovascular Hospital.

The Hospital:

TICHTICH is located at the eastern sector of The Third Avenue of TEDA. The grand and elegant main building is surrounded by a very beautiful garden with evergreen trees, flowers, streams and a mini-bridge. There are plenty convenient parking spaces, enough for patients and visitors to use. Spacious and bright outpatient lobby, spotlessly clean floors and wards, numerous clear signs, convenient hallways, soft light music, and quiet indoor environment. While waiting, patients can comfortably watch medical education TV programs made by TICH. There is also a café, shopping street, flower and gift store, barber shop, safety deposit boxes, 24-hour cafeteria, business center, bank, children’s playground, wide waiting lobby, sunbathing lobby and recreation rooms in the hospital. Patient comfort and convenience for their family and friends are considered a priority. All the thoughtful design and arrangements make both the patients and their relatives feel at home.of
