Destination healthcarE Stroke Recovery™
If you or someone you love has suffered a stroke, you’ve learned that navigating the road to recovery can be challenging. For many, the worries can become consuming.
- What rehab program is best for me?
- Can I afford the treatments I need?
- How much time do I have to get my health back before insurance benefits run out?
- Will I get the kind of treatments I need to make a complete recovery?
- What doctors and hospitals are getting the best results?
Destination HealthCare Stroke Recovery™ delivers access to affordable, premier care making your recovery the expected outcome.
when it comes to stroke recovery, good is not good enough!
China Connection Global Healthcare’s founder is herself a stroke survivor, and she has experienced the limited success of rehabilitation based on the belief that good is good enough. We know that is not true.
Stroke damages parts of the brain that control different things in the body, such as speech and movement. However, medical research confirms other parts of the brain can take over for the damaged areas, allowing people to regain most of the skills and abilities they lost.
One of the biggest issues in typical stroke recovery is that recovery is defined in terms of adaptive living, rather than active living. Here’s what one of America’s largest health insurance companies says (emphasis added):
“The best way to get better after a stroke is to start stroke rehabilitation (“rehab”). In stroke rehab, a team of health professionals works with you to regain skills you lost as the result of a stroke. Rehab can help you to:
- Do as well as you can and be as independent as possible.
- Learn to live with the changes to your brain and body caused by the stroke.
- Adjust to living within your home, family, and community.”
The costs of stroke rehabilitation can reach $100,000 and up, so most people rely on health insurance benefits to pay for the costs. However, available insurance limits are often quickly exhausted, and the remaining costs are unaffordable for many families.
Another national insurance company limits outpatient physical therapy benefits to 20 one-hour visits in a calendar year. At three visits per week, it takes less than two months into your recovery before insurance benefits are gone. It is no wonder the US Centers for Disease Control reports that only 31% of stroke survivors receive outpatient care.
destination healthcare stroke recovery™ benefits
Recovery is the Expectation
CCGH’s Destination HealthCare Stroke Recovery™ starts with the idea that recovery is the expected result. Doctors, nurses, therapists and other caregivers focus on treating the brain and the body. Achieving minimum independence in performing activities of daily living is a milepost toward recovery, not its end.
Medical Center of Excellence
Medical care for Destination HealthCare Stroke Recovery is provided through the First Teaching Hospital in Tianjin, China. First Teaching Hospital, a leading research and teaching hospital, is a renowned international center of excellence in stroke care and treats more than 30,000 new stroke cases each month. By contrast, one of Southern California’s leading stroke rehab centers reports it has treated 2400 patients in the past 10 years.
Individualized Treatment
Destination HealthCare Stroke Recovery™ provides an intensive 90-day treatment plan designed around your specific needs. The care program includes more than 480 hours of treatment, more than half of which is under the direct care of your treating physician.
Affordability
Destination HealthCare™ delivers savings of approximately 80% over billed charges and between 25-40% over insurance company negotiated discounts for medical procedures in the United States. Destination HealthCare Stroke Recovery™ plans start from $21,000. China Connection Global Healthcare works with any insurance company with available benefits.
Coordination with your Home Physician
We know that you will return to the care of your doctor at home when you finish your Destination HealthCare™ program. We also know that many doctors have questions about your care while you are receiving treatment. That’s why we maintain a strong continuity of care relationship with your doctor throughout the process. From coordination of medical records to conference calls between doctors, CCGH keeps each of the parties who are caring for you connected.
Treatment Program
Destination HealthCare Stroke Recovery™ is based on the principles of Integrated Medicine, the powerful convergence of modern Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Specific treatments include:
- Xing Nao Kai Qiao
Xing Nao Kai Qiao is a unique acupuncture technique with demonstrated results in treating cerebrovascular diseases (Faucia, Ferrellia, et al, Italian National Institute of Health; 2008). Dr. Shi Xiemin, Chief Doctor and former president at First Teaching Hospital, developed the technique and remains its senior practitioner. Dr. Charles Shang of the Harvard Medical School writes that Xing Nao Kai Qiao “has met the gold standard of science” (Shang, 2008). - Tuina
Tuina is a Chinese form of medical massage therapy that helps loosen locked joints, increase blood flow, improve sensation and enhance movement. - Physical & Occupational Therapy
Exercise and skill-focused therapies designed to improve range of motion, balance, mobility, and cognitive skills, along with improving gross and fine motor skills. - Heat and Steam Therapies
A combination of therapies designed to improve circulation, decrease muscle tension, and enhance sensation. - Medications
Both Western and Traditional Chinese Medicines support organ systems and address ongoing medical needs. One of the core traditional medications, Danqi Piantang Jiaonang, is effective in stroke recovery (Stroke, March 2009). The most effective form of Danqi Piantang Jiaonang is not yet available in the US. A less effective form, NeuroAid, is available and regulated as a food supplement, rather than a medication. - Oxygen Therapy
Some patients receive hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) which provides support for physical recovery and in combination with Xing Nao Kai Qiao and has shown a general effective rate of 93.6% in aiding resolution of aphasia (Li, 2007). HBOT aids in the formation of new blood vessels to replace those damaged by stroke. It also delivers blood to parts of the brain affected by damaged blood vessels, further enhancing the brain’s healing capabilities. - Biofeedback (eloctromyography)
Biofeedback uses application of electrodes that measure physical functions, including the electrical activity of muscles. It is used to provide immediate feedback providing for re-education of specific muscle groups and treatment of pathological muscle abnormalities including spasticity, incapacitating muscle spasm, and/or weakness. It is also a valuable tool in decreasing apraxia and reducing muscle tension & rigidity.
None of the treatments are considered experimental or investigative, either in general or for the treatment of stroke-related conditions, by the Chinese Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) or the World Health Organization (WHO).
